![]() ![]() To be honest, Prezi really spoils potential users by showing them these amazing presentations that “people just like you and me” built. Not only do the presenters know how to engage an audience, but the presentations behind them look amazing. Great presentations all have a common thread running through it. When you look at a presentation that you really like, what do you notice first? More than likely the answer is the design of it. ![]() An audience wants to be visually entertained whether that’s from slide to slide, or from frame to frame. There are several factors that go into a great presentation, and besides your communication and speaking skills as a whole, the design is what’s most important. Boring presentations are still boring on both Prezi and PowerPoint, so just because you jump around the screen or you use some cheesy animation, it doesn’t make your presentation any better. ![]() It doesn’t matter if you’re going slide to slide or jumping around the screen, your presentation will still be terrible if you have no design behind it. But, it’s all about how you layout that content and design the elements around it that will make the biggest difference. Regardless of the presentation platform you use, your content will most likely be the same. Whether it is something like Prezi, PowerPoint, Keynote, or whatever, it simply just doesn’t matter. But, all I could think about was that it doesn’t really matter which presentation product you use. And, many of their points were somewhat valid because Prezi is kind of cool the way you can make it move and do different things with it. I recently read a blog from Prezi about how great their product was and why you should never, ever use slides again to present something. ![]()

For photographers, this is great news because it means that many people will already have various plates and accessories that fit the head. The clamp on the head uses the Arca-Type standard and not the Manfrotto standard that is common on so many fluid heads. If your primary focus is video shooting and this head is to remain attached to a tripod, it would pair very nicely with a lightweight carbon tripod to create an ultralight solution for getting out into the wilderness. ![]() Larger fluid heads and even gimbals can be a real pain in the ass to pack into camera bags, but I found this little head easy to pack into a lens slot or top pocket of MindShift BackLight Elite backpack. In my testing I would be primarily carrying this as a second head alongside my ball head instead of my gimbal, giving me something to use for video shooting and following wildlife. It’s a little bulkier than the ball head I usually use on my tripod, but it’s actually lighter and considerably less bulky than other small 2-way fluid heads I have used in the past.Īs you can see from the photo, it’s somewhat comparable to the size of a medium-sized DSLR lens and I found that useful right away. Upon unboxing the head I was pleasantly surprised by its size and weight. Gimbal heads are designed to perfectly balance a heavy camera rig and make it feel weightless while it’s moving and tracking wildlife, but such heads are also big and heavy, and therefore overkill for much lighter wildlife photography setups.Īrca clamp on Gitzo 2-Way Fluid Head Gitzo GHF2W In Use But did you also know that they can be useful for wildlife photography? Most wildlife photographers with big super-telephoto lenses use a gimbal head, another type of tripod head that also limits the range of motion to the same horizontal and vertical axis that we get from a standard 2-way fluid head. So 2-way heads are for shooting video, and it’s likely that you already knew that. 2-way video heads come in all shapes and sizes, but something like this Gitzo head falls into the medium-low priced category and could definitely be a consideration for someone who wants to get started in video shooting. ![]() Whilst you can shoot static locked-off video shots with a ball head, you simply can’t use them for panning and tilting while you shoot. With all DSLRs and mirrorless cameras shooting extremely high-quality video these days, many photographers are dabbling in this different medium of media and need a 2-way head to get started. And if opacity gets below a certain point, the app cleverly lets me click around behind it as if it’s not even there. On this particular Gitzo 2-way head, the pan is lock lock knob is in the middle of the tilt lock knob, providing a compact and easy to use solution. ![]() Even better is the opacity slider which lets me choose just how much I want the video to blend into the background, if at all. Then when I click the icon down in the dock, the toolbar will reappear. When I click away from the video, the toolbar at the top completely disappears so only the video is taking up space. What I really love about Fluid Browser is just how well thought out every feature is. Isn’t it incredible what technology can do for us these days? I can even just keep up a regular web page with text instructions - any web page can float above another app on my computer. One reviewer in the Mac App Store said it saved him from his “boring office job” because he can watch Netflix all day long while his boss thinks he’s working. However, there is also one report of this failing also.įor OS 9 and earlier, mounting a disk image requiresthe application "Disk Copy". An alternative is to renamethe disk image to end in '.dmg' (not '.dsk'). There are many reports that "SetFType.dimg" fails tomake an image mountable on Intel Macintoshes (andI've observed this myself). You can now mount the disk image file in Mini vMac, such as by dragging its icon into the Mini vMac window. Two different programs mounting a disk image file for writing will usually cause irreparable corruption.) (It is very important to remember to do this in Mac OS X, because the operating system allows two programs to open the same file for writing, with no way for the programs to prevent it, a really bad design. The icon should show up on the desktop (and in OS X, the top level computer folder), named 'untitled'.ĭrag the file you want to transfer onto this mounted volume.Įject this mounted volume, such as by dragging its icon to the trash. Here are the steps to transfer a file into anew disk image: The "SetFType.dimg" version of" SetFType"makes disk images directly mountable in Mac OS 9,and early versions of OS X. Renaming a disk image to end in '.dmg' (not '.dsk')makes it directly mountable in recent versionsof Mac OS X. Still another possibility is that if you have a file that is already on a 1.4M HFS floppy disk, and have a USB floppy drive, then Disk Utility can make an image of the floppy, and that image can be used with Mini vMac. Álvarez's FuseHFS.Ěnd there is HFS Disk Maker by Charles (author of Pacifist). (It is still possible to mount them read only.) The main work around is to use ImportFl (along with tools to create an archive that preserves resource forks and other Macintosh specific information).Ěnother possibility is to run a different emulator that can work both with HFS and HFS+ disk images (such as Basilisk II or Sheepshaver, according to David Sibley).Ěnd another possibility is Jesús A. Update - Macintosh OS X 10.6.0 and later can no longer write to HFS disks or disk images. In this case, you should first uncompress it on a modern Macintosh(or with Stuffit Expander for Windows version 7as described below). On the other hand, old archives might not be understoodby modern software, so you sometimes need to try both ways. It is common for more recently created archives tonot be usable by software that runs on aMacintosh Plus, even when the software in thearchive works on a Macintosh Plus. Some versions of Mac OS for the Macintosh Plus, suchas System 7.5.5, can mount DOS format images, which opens some more possibilities for transferringfiles on non-Macintosh host operating systems. However, this seems to be especially prone tocorruption problems, so it is safest to use anew transfer disk image for each file transfer. You can get a new blank disk image from the" Blanks"archive. You should periodicallydelete your transfer disk image file and geta new one. It is better to use a separate disk image for transferringfiles, since using a disk image with both Mini vMac andother software, which usually seem to have slightly differentideas of the disk image format, tends to eventually lead tocorruption of the disk image. The promise they first made to us in 2012 is still there, half-met. Tellingly, it’s still the band’s strongest track, even when held up against the final two demo songs. The slow, somber “The Inheritance” is plaintive and cold, its startlingly lovely central riff moving along at a dejected pace. Coupled with the jumpy drumbeats and skittering riff, it makes for a wobbly, disorienting listen, like playing Transilvanian Hunger through the blown-out stereo in your beat-up high school car.Īfter this, the new material ends, and our barely cooled memories of the demo’s three tracks are refreshed, re-recorded and spiffed up. The bizarrely distorted reptilian vocals on “The Free Intelligence” create a jarring chorus with the omnipresent croaks. It’s a valuable skill, especially given the oft-ignored truth that not every riff really needs nine minutes to loiter about. Loss of Self are unique amongst their fellows in this regard: the songs they write never pass the four minute mark, but manage to pack so many ideas and dollops of atmosphere into every moment that the listener never feels cheated. The cryptically titled “( )” is a windswept ambient interlude, spanning only two minutes. (Is this what positive black metal sounds like? Other writers have coined the phrase, and they may just be onto something here: “There Must Be Great Wisdom with Great Death” sounds positively ecstatic.) And while Loss of Self keep their motives quiet, the baleful negativity that permeates the majority of their brethren is absent. The title track, for instance, is a rich, layered piece that piles on clouds of cottony fuzz and, if one were to ignore the strangled vocals, would sound altogether happy. No, it’s not a very grim record in any sense of the word. The post-punk influence is unapologetic nearly every song has at least a few threads of lithe, bright melody weaving through. The pretty parts join the party just in time for “Isolt”, where despite its ragged shrieks and wild tremolo, the joyful noise forces its way through. (Here, they sound like a group that could care less about Joy Division, but have heard good things about Deathspell Omega.) The vocals never veer from their vehement rasp, first dredged up on album opener “Paradise Overgrown”, a song that comes across as a genuinely strange, dissonant affair. True, Loss of Self are more in tune with their black metal side than many of the other post-punk/black metal hybrids floating around. The shimmering chords, the expansive post-rock melodies, the sly nods towards depressive Cascadian riffs- it’s all here. It’s unfortunate 12 Minutes surfaced the same year Deafheaven deftly scooped up the “post-black metal” crown, because the comparisons are inevitable. ![]() ![]() ![]() Another way is to connect your iPhone to your camera with a cable, and then use the iPhone’s screen as a viewfinder. One way is to use an iPhone app like Camera app or CamView to view a live feed from your camera. You can use your iPhone as a monitor for your camera in a few different ways. Using an iPhone as a live view for your Nikon camera can be a great way to get more out of your camera, and it can be especially helpful in tricky shooting situations. Some simply mirror the image on the camera’s LCD screen, while others offer more features, such as the ability to change settings, trigger the shutter, or even see a histogram of the image. There are a few different apps that allow you to do this, and they work in different ways. It is also possible to use an iPhone as a live view for a Nikon camera. Many DSLRs offer live view, and it can be useful in a number of scenarios, such as shooting macro, low-light, or when you want to avoid camera shake by using a tripod. This is different from through-the-lens (TTL) viewing, where you would look through the viewfinder to see the scene. ![]() Last edit at 12:18PM by reezekeys.Assuming you would like an article discussing how to use an iPhone as a live view for a Nikon camera: Live view on a DSLR is a function that allows you to see the image that the camera sensor sees, in real time, on an LCD screen on the back of the camera. Hoping some here have been down this road and might have found a good solution. And of course, cost is a factor - I don't do this very regularly, so was hoping to find something free, sw or reasonably priced. I would actually prefer a wired connection, as I'm simultaneously recording my midi keyboard into a DAW and would like to keep my poor late-2013 MBP's CPU from getting too sweaty. OK, I could handle gridlines, and it would be fine to have some small indicator as to when you're "rolling." I've looked in the app store and seen some apps that use airplay they require you to download an app for the Mac as well, and I think they can only be used in portrait mode (might be wrong there – I know I saw one where the dev commented that QT prevents them from doing landscape). Ideally I would look at my MacBook Pro and see only what the camera sensor is seeing, like this: This is workable but not ideal I'd rather not have those controls on the right of the picture below - they block some of the image and are unnecessary when shooting like this: I'm familiar with connecting the phone to my MBP with a lightning cable and using Quicktime to mirror my iPhone screen. I've done some searching but can't find the exact answer to finding a way - or a reasonably-priced app - to do what I want: using my MacBook Pro as a viewfinder for my (original) iPhone SE's rear-facing camera. I figured this would be a hot topic these days since lots of folks are shooting videos at home. ![]() |
